In the Beginning
Opening reception May 9 from 1pm-3pm
In The Beginning...before humans migrated all over the world, they were one - simple communities where they survived together. They hunted, were nomadic and described their daily experiences by marking walls.
After migrating, humans developed their cultures, customs and physically changed as a cause of adaptation to environment. Eventually, we became more sophisticated and artistic. Using this as the inspiration, an exhibition was put together curating artists and works from around the globe, currently residing in the U.S., particularly Georgia.
We have cultural differences, but we have far more in common, especially our humanity. Borders and cultures were created to separate us in some respects or show distinctions amongst us. However, we can find commonality in our artistic expressions, creative rituals, and our unique points of view about society and all the things we are connected to. We are exhibiting our determination to present a united group or collective willing to see more than skin color, more than stereotypes and other labels created by and for ourselves. We can speak in our artistic language, dissolving man-made differences to reveal who we really are...a group of talented, creative, imaginative people doing extraordinary things with our artistic skills. But...the emphasis of this project is to go beyond that, to show that art breaks barriers and is an extension of our humanity. We are presenting an artistic setting at the Hudgens Center for the arts, where our primary objective is to see ourselves as one and many at the same time, by the common and universal language of art.

Above the Horizon: Cloudscape Paintings by Rachel Grant

Opening reception May 9th from 1pm-3pm
This exhibition features expansive, expressive oil paintings that explore the ever-changing sky. Scientific studies suggest that looking upward outdoors can boost creativity, inspire playful thinking, and foster a sense of optimism. These works celebrate that idea, as the artist approaches the natural world and beauty of clouds with a sense of wonder and awe.
Rachel Grant is an Atlanta native, working from her studio in historic downtown Lawrenceville. She holds a B.A. in Art with a minor in Psychology from Auburn University and earned both an M.F.A. in Painting and an M.A. in Arts Administration from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). For the past decade, her work has explored and celebrated the ephemeral nature of clouds. She enjoys teaching at the Hudgens Center for Art and Learning and the Spruill Center for the Arts.
